Join OOC at our 2024 HSE Tech Seminar where we will learn about current and new technologies and research studies available to the industry.

Topics include methane testing, mammal detection, offshore firefighting system, confined space safety technology, rescue boat simulation, and smart sensing tech.

This event is open to OOC members and our government partners only. No press is allowed and pre-registration is required. 

The seminar will be held at Talos Energy's offices in Houston with a virtual attendance option.

10:50 - 11:30 am: Development of a Class I Division 1 TDLAS Methane Detection System for Use on Offshore Platforms

SENSIT has developed a continuous real-time methane monitoring system aimed to detect and quantify emissions.  To support the offshore community, SENSIT is working to achieve Class 1 Division I intrinsic safety certifications to allow for the deployment of the units offshore.  We will show the efficacy of such a system for measuring methane, provide an update on the intrinsic safety certification of the device, and discuss plans to pilot the system offshore.

RPS is developing a marine mammal acoustic detection AI that can be used to augment current Passive Acoustic Monitoring systems that are required for monitoring and mitigation during many offshore operations. RPS is also working on developing visual monitoring systems that can be deployed to fulfill protected species monitoring requirements for remotely operated craft that may be deployed autonomously or in conjunction with a staffed vessel as a force multiplier.

Tank entry is a critical and frequent necessity in offshore operations, essential for the maintenance, inspection, and cleaning of various compartments on semi-submersibles, jack-up rigs, and other offshore installations/vessels. 3:00 –   3:30 pm: Acceptance of Simulation to Augment Fast Rescue Boat Drills

As part of an initiative to reduce the risk of accidents during fast rescue boat drills, a major ferry operator received authorization to augment their drills with simulation-based training.  This is the first known example of simulation-augmented drills being used to comply with the provisions of the SOLAS Convention.  The presentation will describe the process used to demonstrate the effectiveness of simulation in training fast rescue boat operators and the methods used to implement simulation-augmented drills in the shipping sector.

Leveraging sensor packages in the field, available communication networks in the Gulf, and cloud-based analytics platforms can help operators operate more efficiently and safely in challenging offshore environments like the GOM. This talk will explore some of the exciting new developments for monitoring real-time operations in the GOM with regard to vessel and helicopter operations, metocean conditions, and fleet management of assets.
